Onclosure !.

Sir,

Z

With reference to my Confidential Despatch of

the 15th. December last, I have the honour to transmit a statement

of expenditure incurred on account of the war for the year 1915 amounting to $253,029.85.

Enclosure 2

2.

The trustees of the Club Germania have recently

paid to the Government a sum of $1,248.44 being the amount me for

rates less amounts payable by the Government for the use of a

portion of the building for seventy days last year.

3.

I also enclose a statement of the expenditure

incurred on account of the war during the first five months of the

year. This statement shows recurrent expenditure of 291,916.08 and

non-recurrant expenditure of $168,413.92, mand an estimate for the

whole year based on the average recurrent expenditure for those

months of $249,399.36 or a total of 8417,813.28. There are, how-

-ever, three items not inserted. The first is the cost of main-

-tenance of the Prisoners of War in Australia for which no accounts

have yet been received. It is expected that this will amount to

about £1,000 a month for 10 months or a sum of £10,500. The second

is the cost of the Camp buildings in Australia, which may amount to

£1,000. The third is the cost of sending further prisoners of war to

Australia, which will probably not exceed £1,500. These three items

swell the total probable expenditure for the current year to about

2550,000.

HE RIGHT HONOURABLE

ANDREW BONAR LAW, M.P
